Expressions of Interest – Artificial Sheep Breeding Technician
Genstock is an artificial sheep breeding business based in Kojonup, WA that was established in 1983. We provide artificial sheep breeding and sheep consultancy services in WA and overseas. Our mission is to optimise artificial breeding results and production outcomes for our clients by being leaders in the industry. We have a team-based approach with experienced veterinarians, animal scientists, veterinary nurses, embryologists, pregnancy scanners and technicians. We have a strong bond with our clients and pride ourselves on the relationship we have with our clients.

Job Opportunity
We are currently seeking a technician who is passionate about the sheep industry and breeding to join our team. The role will involve working at our Kojonup centre and on clients properties. The position requires travel throughout WA sheep grazing areas with our team. The role is initially for our seasonal breeding season, commencing in September/October to March, but there is the potential for this role to be fulltime for the right candidate. We are committed to investing in our staff through on the job training and encourage professional development. There is the potential for the right candidate to be trained in embryology and travel overseas with our veterinarian.

Selection Criteria

  • Practical skills and experience in sheep husbandry.
  • Ability to work in a team but also ability to work independently.
  • Strong work ethic, and excellent communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and join us in striving to maximise our clients outcomes.

Remuneration will be commensurate with experience and is regularly reviewed as staff develop.

Responsibilities
The main responsibilities in this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Working alongside our veterinarians and embryologists in artificial breeding programs
    (Artificial Insemination and Embryo Transfer).
  • Semen collection, processing and freezing semen in our collection facility.
  • Assist with project work, such as export collection programs.
  • Facilitate disease investigations.
  • Wool testing in our wool laboratory.
  • Communicate and liaise with our stud and commercial clients.
