Trainee Horticulturalist

An exciting opportunity exists for someone who enjoys spending time outside and loves gardening and landscaping. If you have a cheerful and positive outlook and have an interest in horticulture then this could be the traineeship for you!

The Shire of Corrigin supports the engagement and development of youth in our region and are focused on increasing youth participation and upskilling our workforce of the future. We are looking for someone to join our parks and gardens team for an 18 month, full time fixed-term contract.

During this time the successful candidate will be expected to successfully complete one of the following TAFE qualifications:

• AHC30716 Certificate III in Horticulture
• AHC31016 Certificate III in Parks and Gardens
• AHC31319 Certificate III in Sports Turf Management

Key Responsibilities and Duties:
• Learn horticultural and associated activities.
• Provide horticultural services and landscape maintenance to public parks, gardens, ovals, cemetery and reserves throughout the Shire of Corrigin.
• Assist in maintaining reticulation, dams and water management.
• Operate plant and equipment in a safe and competent manner.

Skills and Experience Required:
• Successful completion of Year 10.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Willingness to perform physical work year around in an outdoor team environment.
